Violence? Terrorism?
George Gerbner believed and recognized that violence in media could alter your mood. While he didn't think that could necessarily happen all the time. He emphasized that correlation between watching TV and reacting to it. Between the video on terrorism and George's insights, its safe to say that the relationship between pop-culture and terrorism have a negative and positive effect. While 57% of people think that torture works, it really doesn't. That ties into cultivation theory in a way that what they see in the television world about terrorism is reality, in all actuality it is not.

I agree that popular culture and terrorism's relationship is both positive and negative. People think that the methods of torture they use in real life are as successful as they see in the movies. This is definitely not always true.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how pop culture's relationship to terrorism has a positive effect on anything, but watching the videos on torture did open my eyes to see that Americans think that torture works. And it is because of this that we think it is okay to treat humans so inhumanely.
