One pro con that I want to talk about is number 3 and the counter active argument number 6. This argument talks about how social media affects students with schooling and grades. On one end of the spectrum its arguing that social media helps kids do better at school with stats to prove it.. On the other hand, the argument is stating that kids tend to have lower grades when using social media.. For me, I might say that it could be a combination of both. Being from Washington high school it was hard to stray away from school work when using social media becise the school district blocked off certain media sites such as Facebook. So maybe social media is a plus.. If havig blockers from certain media sites and gaming sites, social media can be a great asset for kids to do better

Celebrities go through so much more than the average human on a daily basis. Although being a celebrity has its perks financially and fame wise. They have to put in twice more work for it to pay off. For example. They music industry is an industry that can be tiresome and cruel because of the work it takes to make one song or album. Singer and musicians have to pick out music and sing on key and put the right elements in just to make a good track.. That right there sound like too much. Artists also have promotions they have to do to support their music.. That included interviews on tv, radio, magazines, and online. Not to mention touring. It's safe to say that being a celebrity is nice and alll, it takes dedication, discipline, and drive to strive for success.

The first example I have for social currency would be "The Dab," dance move. not only does certain people can do it. It actually a pretty cool dance move that people do and has became an epidemic in the past months. It relates to being an insider, that people want to know how to do that dance move to make them feel cool.

My last example of social currency in todays current world would be the one and only Rihanna. Her song "Work," is not only infectious, but it makes people want to dance and have fun just like she is, When releasing a hot video and dancing in that video, that makes people make choreography videos and parody's  to show your interpretation of what you are feeling when listening to that song. That shows characteristics of being an insider.

Tattoos? What's the misconception?

In tattoos, mixed messages can be perceived in many ways. One of those ways would be why some people doesn't like it, rather than people that do like it. This misconception had been going on since the 1900's. People that don't like tattoos usually make a claim that people with tattoos are people that are of the lower class and "thuggish." While to some people tattoos are a piece of artwork. It's a part of who they are and can represent what their about.  

Violence? Terrorism?

George Gerbner believed and recognized that violence in media could alter your mood. While he didn't think that could necessarily happen all the time. He emphasized that correlation between watching TV and reacting to it. Between the video on terrorism and George's insights, its safe to say that the relationship between pop-culture and terrorism have a negative and positive effect. While 57% of people think that torture works, it really doesn't. That ties into cultivation theory in a way that what they see in the television world about terrorism is reality, in all actuality it is not. 

In the article Why We play has examples that playing video games, is an outlet for people from their daily life, a way to escape. In doing that, people become happy and for a moment they have their fantasy turn into a reality. In contrast to the video that we watched in class, Jane McGonigal describes in her lecture 5 regrets that people that have when their on their death bed. One of those regrets included having not been actively in contact with their peers and friends. I'm getting at video games brought people together and friendships together. People escape together especially in games that have teams such as Call of Duty and Halo. You have to actively interact with your friends and teammates.
Another similarity between the lecture and the article would be the fact that playing video games helps people set goals and achieving them even if its to go to the next level on a game. Achieve your goals helps people feel better knowing they completed the task. Jane also designed video games for the purpose of making people feel better by getting power ups and completing the level. Especially after what she went through, she wanted to create an outlet so people can feel better, and she did just that.

Between the video of "Say yes to the Dress" and the "Lavish Weddings" paper, one thing stood out in common, White is the way to go. In the video there was one woman that initially wanted to get a black dress, but her mother didn't want that for her daughter because it wasn't pure and white. So the woman ended up getting the white dress because it was more pure and the mother thought she was more beautiful in that dress. Another connection from the video to the reading was the "Bigger the Better" type of ordeal. A certain women wanted her dress to be very big and glamorous versus a simple (not to mention least expensive dress) because her dress was $11000! 

I think the whole idea behind sports is overrated. Sports is something that should be a hobby, not something that people depend their life on. One reason I believe people rely heavy on sports is because of the parents. Parents of students that participate in sports anticipate that sports is the way to go to live a complete and successful life, instead of having sports being something that they love. 

Coaches are also a big part of sports being overrated. Why? Coaches depend too much on their students to take their team to the top and be the best. In order to do that, they overwork the kids and over practice them, when sports is supposed to be something they love. It's almost like coaches have a bigger ego than the students that are performing well. It actually saddens me because coaches can make students fall out of love with what they want to do because of being overworked and that's not fair to the student because they just want to play. But then again, students do sign up to play sports so that is their decision at they end of they day.

Sexual Objectification!

In this photo, Paris Hilton is being sexually objectified. Not only is she selling a burger half naked, her face and hair are used in a way to sexually lure people to eat a burger at Hardees. Most of her body is being shown, and Paris doesn't necessarily look excited to eat this burger and promote it.

 In this photo I am appalled for a couple of reasons because this has almost gone beyond sexual objectification. Tom Ford is trying to sell cologne for men, what better way to sell it then having a cologne bottle in front of a vagina. Not only are the showing just the vagina on a female, they are sexually objectifying her to sell this cologne because it attracts men. Maybe men believe it smells really good if a vagina is behind it, I don't know. Why would a women want a cologne bottle in between her legs, that's not really common.

Duke student by day... Porn Star by night.

    For my first blog post I am appalled by the story of a Duke student that turned to porn to pay for her tuition and then some. For the video that we watch, the news lady that was being interviewed commended her for her strength and empowerment of doing porn and going to college as well. I actually agree with this statement because at the end of the day, no one else has to pay the $60,000 dollars besides that girl that has to. So why can't she do it her own way. It definitely is crazy that so many people are judging her and calling her out her name because she is finding a way to pay for college that doesn't stress her out.

   On the view interview when she explained herself was also actually shocking because of some of the co-hosts were appalled that she started watching pornography at 12 years old. Maybe it is the newer generation, but that is probably around the median age of children that watch porn. Hell kids are getting pregnant at 13-14 years of age now. So pornography is shaped to be doomed while is college. But in reality, it's her choice of what she wants to do with her body and nobody should make a judgment or comment beside the people that care for her and are her family/friends. But in this media/ environment when someone is doing great, we always find a way to rain on their parade.
